Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-Gaao' – Koh Tao Oak Leaf with Multifurcate Caudex (WA Prohibited)
Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-Gaao' is a distinctive Madagascan hybrid prized for its deeply lobed oak-shaped foliage and sculptural caudex. Endemic to the arid southern regions of Madagascar, this form displays the classic Koh Tao leaf type paired with an intricately branched multifurcate caudex — an exceptional feature prized by collectors for its bonsai-like presence and architectural quality.
Distinctive features:
- Oak leaf form: deeply lobed with crisp, undulating margins
- Colour palette: dusky burgundy to olive with occasional blushes of pink and green
- Patterning: subtle mottling and central veining, occasionally variegated
- Multifurcate caudex: swollen base divides into multiple limbs, giving the plant a branched, tree-like appearance
- Compact growth habit with a dense crown of ruffled foliage
- Small, coral-pink cyathia appear in clusters above the foliage
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright indirect light to morning sun; avoid harsh midday exposure
- Water: Allow soil to fully dry between waterings; reduce during winter dormancy
- Humidity: Tolerates dry air; avoid high humidity environments
- Media: Extremely well-draining cactus/succulent mix with added grit
- Temperature: Prefers warm conditions; protect below 10°C
- Fertiliser: Use diluted cactus fertiliser monthly during active growth
- Repotting: Infrequent; repot only when caudex outgrows container
Additional Notes:
- Highly sought after among Euphorbia collectors due to its rare caudex structure
- Slow-growing and benefits from consistent care
- Excellent candidate for container culture or bonsai-style display
- Contains latex sap that may irritate skin; toxic to pets if ingested
