Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-Saam' – Striking Red-Pink Veined Krabi Form (WA Prohibited)
Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-Saam' is a hybrid of the Madagascan endemic Euphorbia francoisii, a slow-growing caudiciform plant prized for its artistic foliage. This particular cultivar, a Krabi form, boasts striking red to pink veining that meanders through its narrow, undulating leaves. Its sculptural caudex, reminiscent of driftwood or abstract sculpture, adds to its architectural charm, making it a collector's gem.
Distinctive features:
- Leaf veins display a brilliant blend of red and pink, intensifying with light exposure.
- Leaves are lanceolate with undulating, serrated margins – typical of Krabi forms.
- Upper leaf surfaces are a dark olive-green to purplish, often semi-glossy in texture.
- Compact rosette growth atop an ornamental, swollen caudex that often twists or curves uniquely.
- Small cyathia (modified Euphorbia flowers) are pale green and emerge near the central rosette.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright indirect to filtered sunlight; morning or late afternoon sun ideal.
- Water: Allow substrate to fully dry between watering; susceptible to root rot.
- Humidity: Tolerates dry indoor air; prefers good airflow.
- Media: Use a mineral-rich, gritty cactus or caudiciform mix with excellent drainage.
- Temperature: Keep above 15°C; protect from cold draughts and frost.
- Fertiliser: Dilute balanced succulent fertiliser during active growth (spring–summer).
- Repotting: Only when rootbound or to refresh soil; avoid disturbing caudex unnecessarily.
Additional Notes:
- This plant's caudex stores water, allowing it to tolerate mild neglect.
- Rare Krabi form with highly sought-after leaf patterning and form.
- The latex sap can irritate skin and is toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
- Considered a slow-grower but very rewarding for display and bonsai-like cultivation.
Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-Saam' exemplifies the incredible variation within this species’ hybrids. Its fiery veining, architectural form, and modest care requirements make it a standout for collectors and succulent enthusiasts alike. With patience and the right conditions, this living sculpture will continue to impress season
