Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-See' – Dark Elegance and Bifurcated Caudex (WA Prohibited)
Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-See', a Krabi form hybrid, originates from the arid landscapes of southern Madagascar. This exceptional cultivar is celebrated for its dramatically contorted, bifurcated caudex and rich, dark-toned foliage with distinctive veining. Its architectural structure and vivid bracts make it a standout among caudiciform Euphorbias.
Distinctive features:
- Eye-catching bifurcated caudex with a twisting, sculptural form.
- Deep maroon to chocolate-toned foliage with bold red midribs and fine venation.
- Long, lanceolate leaves with rippled margins and slight gloss.
- Rosette leaf arrangement giving a canopy-like effect atop the caudex.
- Clusters of delicate bracts in soft coppery-pink with lime-green centres.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light with morning sun; shield from harsh midday rays.
- Water: Let the soil dry out between waterings; reduce significantly during dormancy.
- Humidity: Adaptable but thrives best in moderate humidity with good airflow.
- Media: Use a gritty, free-draining cactus mix with added pumice or perlite.
- Temperature: Keep between 18–28°C; avoid cold draughts and frost.
- Fertiliser: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a dilute succulent fertiliser.
- Repotting: Infrequent; only when caudex outgrows the container or medium degrades.
Additional Notes
- Slow-growing and best suited to collectors and intermediate growers.
- The unique caudex may be partially exposed for ornamental display.
- Handle with care—milky sap is irritating and toxic to pets if ingested.
- Excellent candidate for bonsai-style presentation or as a specimen in a succulent showcase.
With its sculptural base and rare leaf coloration, Euphorbia francoisii 'Sip-See' is a botanical gem for enthusiasts seeking an expressive and unusual succulent. Its exotic allure is matched only by its individuality—no two specimens are quite the same.
