Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Large, elongated leaves (up to 15cm or 6 inches long) that emerge with a reddish-pink hue and mature to a deep green, adorned with splashes of creamy white and pink variegation. The leaves are thick and slightly succulent, adding to their allure.
- Flowers: Produces clusters of star-shaped, pink flowers with a darker pink corona. The flowers have a delicate fragrance and a velvety texture.
- Growth Habit: This Hoya has a vining growth habit and can reach impressive lengths (up to 3 metres or 10 feet). It thrives when provided with a support to climb, such as a trellis or moss pole, but can also be grown in a hanging basket.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is essential for optimal growth and variegation. Some direct morning or evening sun can enhance the colours of the leaves.
- Water: Allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: This Hoya appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray, or misting the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 18-29°C (65-85°F) for optimal growth.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly during the spring and summer growing seasons.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix.
Additional Notes
- The intensity of the variegation on the leaves can be influenced by light levels. More light generally results in brighter variegation.
- Provide good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal issues.
- This Hoya can be propagated through stem cuttings.
