Hoya Sweet Scent - Delightful Fragrant Hoya
Hoya Sweet Scent is a tropical epiphytic vine known for its highly fragrant, star-shaped flowers and glossy, succulent-like leaves. The blooms appear in clusters with a delicate pink hue and a darker corona, releasing a strong, sweet fragrance, especially in the evening.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Medium-sized, ovate, and dark green, with a smooth texture. The leaves are arranged oppositely on the stem and can grow up to 8cm (3.1in) long and 5cm (2in) wide.
- Flowers: Borne in clusters of up to 15, each with a diameter of 2cm (0.8in). The flowers are a creamy white colour with a pink centre and have a sweet, honey-like fragrance.
- Growth Habit: A vigorous vining plant that can grow up to 2.5m (8.2ft) long. It is best grown in a hanging basket or on a trellis or ladder to allow its long runners to cascade freely.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water regularly during the growing season (spring and summer) and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in autumn and winter.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Misting the leaves regularly can help to increase humidity levels.
- Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 18-25°C (64-77°F). Avoid temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
- Fertiliser: Fertilise once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
- Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.
- Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take cuttings in spring or summer and root them in a well-draining potting mix.
