Sempervivum 'Lime Light' - The Vibrant Houseleek with a Zest for Life
Embrace the brilliance of Sempervivum 'Lime Light'! This captivating succulent, native to Europe, forms rosettes of vibrant lime-green leaves with contrasting red tips. Its compact growth habit and striking colours make it a superb choice for rock gardens, container gardening, or even green roofs.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Lime-green, fleshy leaves form a stunning rosette, reaching up to 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter. The reddish tips add a delightful contrast.
- Flowers: Pink, star-shaped flowers appear on tall stalks in summer, creating a charming contrast against the bright foliage.
- Growth Habit: Compact and low-growing, forming a dense mat of rosettes that spread slowly over time, producing off-sets as it matures.
Care Tips
- Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Ensure at least four hours of direct sunlight daily to maintain vibrant colours.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: Tolerates average humidity levels. Good air circulation is beneficial.
- Temperature: Hardy to -20°C (-4°F). Adaptable to a wide range of temperatures but prefers cooler conditions.
- Fertiliser: Feed once a year in spring with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength.
- Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus and succulent mix. Repot only when the plant outgrows its container.
- Propagation: Easily propagated through offsets (chicks) that form around the base of the plant.
Additional Notes
- Sempervivum 'Lime Light' is a relatively slow-growing succulent, maintaining its compact form for an extended period.
- It’s a low-maintenance and drought-tolerant plant, making it perfect for busy gardeners or those new to succulent care.
- Consider pairing it with other Sempervivum varieties or succulents with contrasting colours for a visually dynamic display.
