Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Striking, fleshy leaves with a distinctive crinkled or wavy texture. The leaves are typically green with reddish-brown markings and have a velvety appearance.
- Flowers: Produces small, tubular flowers in shades of pink or white. While the flowers are not the main attraction, they add a touch of delicate beauty to this fascinating plant.
- Growth Habit: This Adromischus has a compact, clumping growth habit. It typically grows to a height of 10-15cm (4-6 inches) and spreads slowly to form a dense cluster.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. A south- or west-facing window is ideal.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's important to be cautious. Water less frequently during the winter months.
- Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents. You can add perlite or pumice to improve drainage.
- Temperature: Maintain comfortable room temperatures between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Avoid exposing this plant to cold draughts or temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Potting: Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a slightly larger pot each time. Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
