The White-Leaved Adromischus: A Captivating Succulent
Adromischus leucophyllus is a truly unique succulent that will capture your attention with its captivating, white, felted leaves. This fascinating plant is native to South Africa and is a wonderful addition to any succulent collection.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Striking, white, felted leaves that are typically 2-5cm long (approximately 1-2 inches). The leaves are thick and fleshy, with a velvety texture due to the dense covering of white hairs.
- Flowers: Produces small, tubular flowers that are typically greenish-white or pink in colour. While the flowers are not the main attraction, they add a touch of delicate beauty to this fascinating plant.
- Growth Habit: This Adromischus has a compact, shrubby growth habit. It typically grows to a height of 10-15cm (approximately 4-6 inches) and forms clusters of stems with densely packed leaves.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. As with most succulents, Adromischus leucophyllus is susceptible to overwatering, so it's important to avoid soggy conditions.
- Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. You can also add perlite or pumice to improve drainage.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 18-29°C (65-85°F) for optimal growth. Avoid exposing this succulent to cold draughts or frost.
- Fertiliser: Use a diluted succulent fertiliser once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a slightly larger pot and fresh potting mix.
