Adromischus leucophyllus
check_circle In Stock
Adromischus leucophyllus is a dwarf succulent species from South Africa, where it grows on rocky slopes in arid regions. It is characterised by compact clusters of short stems with thick, paddle-shaped leaves covered in a dense layer of fine hairs, giving the plant a silvery-grey appearance. The leaf coating reduces water loss and offers protection against intense sunlight in its native environment. In cultivation, plants may produce slender inflorescences bearing small, tubular flowers that are greenish to whitish with purple tips, although the foliage remains the main ornamental feature.
Care Tips
- Light: Requires bright light to full sun to maintain compact growth and the silvery coating on leaves.
- Water: Water sparingly, letting soil dry thoroughly between applications; water less frequently in winter.
- Media: Grow in a sharply draining, sandy or gritty substrate to protect roots from excess moisture.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser during the warmer growing months.
- Temperature: Best in warm, dry conditions; protect from frost and avoid prolonged dampness.
- Repotting: Repot occasionally to refresh the growing medium; propagate easily from detached leaves once callused.
