Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Thick, fleshy leaves that are typically 3-5cm long (approximately 1.25-2 inches) and 2-3cm wide (approximately 1 inch). The leaves are a vibrant green colour and are adorned with distinctive reddish-brown spots, giving them a calico-like appearance.
- Flowers: Produces small, tubular flowers that are typically greenish-white or pale pink in colour. While the flowers are not the main attraction, they add a touch of delicate beauty to this fascinating plant.
- Growth Habit: This Adromischus has a compact, clumping growth habit. It typically grows to a height of around 10cm (approximately 4 inches) and spreads slowly to form a dense cluster of rosettes.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. As with most succulents, Adromischus maculatus is susceptible to overwatering, so it's important to err on the side of caution.
- Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. You can also add perlite or pumice to improve drainage.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 18-29°C (65-85°F) for optimal growth. Avoid exposing this succulent to cold draughts or temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a slightly larger pot and fresh potting mix.
