Adromischus maculatus
check_circle In Stock
Adromischus maculatus is a succulent species native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows on rocky hillsides and in well-drained sandy soils. It forms small clumps of upright stems bearing fleshy, oval leaves that are grey-green to brownish, often marked with irregular purple blotches. Leaf size and colour intensity can vary depending on light and seasonal conditions. In summer, mature plants produce slender flower spikes topped with small, tubular flowers that are greenish-white with purple tips. Its spotted foliage makes it one of the more recognisable members of the genus.
Care Tips
- Light: Requires bright light to full sun to enhance leaf spotting and maintain compact growth.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing soil to dry thoroughly between applications; reduce watering during winter rest.
- Media: Needs a sharply draining sandy or gritty mix to prevent root rot.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser in the warmer growing months for steady growth.
- Temperature: Best grown in warm, dry conditions; protect from frost and prolonged dampness.
- Repotting: Repot every few years to renew soil; propagation is straightforward from detached leaves left to callus before planting.
