Adromischus marianae f. Alveolatus
check_circle In Stock
Adromischus marianiae f. alveolatus is a recognised form of Adromischus marianiae, distributed in arid regions of Namibia and South Africa where it grows among rocks and gravel in mineral-rich soils. This form is characterised by its thick, irregular leaves with a distinct alveolate surface, meaning the texture is pitted or honeycombed. Leaf colouration varies from grey-green to brownish-red depending on sun exposure and seasonal stress. In cultivation, the plant remains compact and clumping. Mature plants may produce slender flower stalks with small, tubular flowers that are pale green to whitish with purple tips, although the foliage is the most ornamental feature.
Care Tips
- Light: Requires bright light to full sun for compact growth and enhanced colour in the leaves.
- Water: Water sparingly, letting soil dry thoroughly between applications; reduce watering during winter dormancy.
- Media: Best in a very gritty, sharply draining mix to prevent root and stem rot.
- Fertiliser: Apply a weak cactus fertiliser in the active growing season.
- Temperature: Prefers warm, dry conditions; shelter from frost and avoid prolonged dampness.
- Repotting: Repot every few years to refresh the substrate; propagation is straightforward from detached, callused leaves.
