Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' - The Striking Succulent
The Striking Succulent: Aeonium 'Emerald Ice'
Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' is a captivating succulent that will add a touch of vibrant colour and unique form to your plant collection. This stunning hybrid is prized for its rosettes of variegated leaves, showcasing a captivating blend of green, white, and pink hues.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves arranged in beautiful rosettes. The leaves exhibit a striking variegation, with shades of emerald green at the centre, transitioning to creamy white and then to vibrant pink at the tips.
- Flowers: In mature plants, tall flower stalks emerge from the centre of the rosettes, bearing clusters of small, star-shaped, yellow flowers.
- Growth Habit: This Aeonium has a branching growth habit, forming a compact, upright shrub that can reach up to 60cm (24 inches) tall and wide.
Care Tips
- Light: Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate some direct sunlight, intense afternoon sun can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's important to be cautious. During the winter dormancy period, reduce watering significantly.
- Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. You can also add perlite or pumice to improve drainage.
- Temperature: This Aeonium prefers warm temperatures between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Protect it from frost and cold draughts during the winter months.
- Fertiliser: Use a diluted succulent fertiliser once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Propagation: Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' can be propagated through stem cuttings or offsets. Allow cuttings to callus over before planting in well-draining soil.
Additional Notes
- Aeonium 'Emerald Ice' is a relatively easy succulent to care for, making it a great choice for both novice and experienced growers.
- This succulent is a stunning addition to any indoor garden, rock garden, or succulent arrangement.
- The vibrant colours of the leaves intensify with increased sunlight and cooler temperatures.
