Agave parviflora
cancel Sold out
Agave parviflora is a small species native to southern Arizona in the United States and Sonora in Mexico, where it grows in desert grasslands and on rocky slopes. It forms compact rosettes of narrow green leaves decorated with white markings and curling marginal fibres, which give the plant a distinctive appearance. Mature rosettes rarely exceed 20 cm in diameter. After many years of growth, the plant produces a tall flowering stalk up to 2 m high, bearing clusters of tubular yellow flowers that attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. Following flowering, the rosette dies, though offsets are sometimes produced around the base.
Care Tips
- Light: Requires full sun to maintain compact growth and leaf markings.
- Water: Very drought tolerant; water sparingly and allow soil to dry fully between waterings.
- Media: Best grown in a sharply draining mix with sand, gravel, or grit.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser in the warmer months for stronger growth.
- Temperature: Cold hardy to light frost; protect from extended freezing conditions.
- Repotting: Repot only when required, as plants remain small and grow slowly.
Additional Notes
- Known to be toxic
