Anacampseros filamentosa subsp. tomentosa
cancel Sold out
Anacampseros filamentosa subsp. tomentosa is a dwarf succulent native to arid regions of South Africa. It forms compact rosettes of fleshy leaves densely covered in white hairs, which help reduce water loss and reflect harsh sunlight. Over time, the rosettes cluster to form small mats. In summer, it produces pink, five-petalled flowers that open in the afternoon sun and close again in the evening. This subspecies is especially adapted to very dry conditions and is valued for its dense, hairy covering that distinguishes it from other forms of the species.
Care Tips
- Light: Requires full sun to bright light for compact growth and dense hair development.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry fully between waterings; reduce watering in winter.
- Media: Use a very free-draining gritty succulent mix to prevent root rot.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser occasionally during the growing season.
- Temperature: Prefers warm, dry conditions; protect from frost and prolonged cold below 5 °C.
- Repotting: Repot infrequently, only when clumps outgrow the pot; handle carefully to avoid damaging roots and leaf hairs.
