Begonia rex 'Indian Summer' (WA prohibited)
check_circle In Stock
Begonia rex 'Indian Summer' is a foliage cultivar within the Begonia rex-cultorum group, appreciated for its warm-toned leaves that vary from copper and bronze to red and silver, often with distinct zonation or marbling. The leaves are large, asymmetrical, and spiralled at the base, with fine serrations along the edges. This hybrid originates from a lineage of forest-dwelling Begonia species native to north-east India and surrounding regions, but the cultivar itself is a product of ornamental breeding.
Care Tips:
- Light: Best in bright, indirect light; colour intensity may fade in deep shade
- Water: Allow top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering; avoid wet leaves
- Humidity: Moderate to high humidity required to prevent leaf damage
- Media: Use a well-drained mix with peat, perlite, and fine bark or coir
- Temperature: Keep within 18–24°C; sensitive to cold and sudden changes
- Fertiliser: Apply diluted balanced fertiliser every 3–4 weeks during growth period
- Repotting: Repot in spring when rhizomes crowd the pot or growth slows
Additional Notes:
- Known to be toxic
