Begonia subacida is an epiphytic species endemic to the misty montane forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is admired for its intricately lobed foliage and quiet elegance, thriving in humid, shaded habitats alongside mosses and ferns.
Care Tips
- Light: Thrives in filtered light or bright shade; avoid direct sun which can scorch leaves.
- Water: Keep evenly moist but never soggy; use rainwater or filtered water if possible.
- Humidity: Requires high humidity (70% or more); excellent in terrariums or greenhouse setups.
- Media: Grows best in an airy epiphytic mix – fine bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite are ideal.
- Temperature: Prefers 18–26 °C; sensitive to cold and should be kept above 12 °C.
- Fertiliser: Light monthly feeding during active growth with a diluted, balanced fertiliser.
- Repotting: Rarely needed unless mounting material breaks down – inspect annually.
