Bulbophyllum ambrosia
cancel Sold out
Bulbophyllum ambrosia is a compact species distributed in southern China, northern Vietnam, and neighbouring regions. It grows in moist, shaded forests at mid elevations, often on tree trunks or branches. Plants form small pseudobulbs along a creeping rhizome, each with a single leaf. The inflorescences are short, bearing one or two cream to pale yellow flowers, sometimes flushed with pink or red. Unlike many in the genus, the flowers are pleasantly fragrant, which is reflected in the species name. Its combination of compact growth, manageable culture, and sweet scent makes it a favoured choice for orchid growers.
Care Tips
- Light: Best grown in shaded to moderately bright, indirect light.
- Water: Keep evenly moist, watering frequently but avoiding stagnant conditions.
- Media: Suitable for mounting on cork or tree fern, or in a fine orchid mix with sphagnum moss to retain moisture.
- Fertiliser: Apply a dilute orchid fertiliser regularly during active growth.
- Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm conditions, ideally 16–28 °C, with good humidity.
- Air circulation: Provide steady airflow to maintain leaf and root health.
- Repotting: Refresh medium or remount every 2–3 years to sustain active growth.
