Bulbophyllum Elizabeth Ann 'Buckleberry' FCC/AOC
An Award-Winning Orchid with Exceptional Beauty
Bulbophyllum Elizabeth Ann 'Buckleberry' FCC/AOC is a truly exceptional orchid that has captured the hearts of orchid enthusiasts worldwide. This award-winning hybrid boasts stunning flowers, a unique fragrance, and a captivating growth habit, making it a prized addition to any orchid collection.
Distinctive Features
- Flowers: Produces clusters of large, vibrant flowers that are a striking combination of red, purple, and yellow hues. The flowers have a unique, spicy fragrance and are typically 8-10cm in diameter (approximately 3-4 inches).
- Growth Habit: This Bulbophyllum has a sympodial growth habit, meaning it grows horizontally, producing new growths (pseudobulbs) along a rhizome. It is an epiphyte, which means it naturally grows on trees and other surfaces, absorbing moisture and nutrients from the air and rain.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. An east-facing windowsill or a shaded south-facing window is often ideal.
- Water: Water regularly, allowing the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot. It's best to use rainwater or distilled water, as Bulbophyllums can be sensitive to the minerals in tap water.
- Humidity: This Bulbophyllum appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water, or misting the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain intermediate to warm temperatures between 18-29°C (65-85°F) for optimal growth. Avoid exposing this tropical gem to cold draughts or temperatures below 15°C (59°F).
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced orchid fertiliser at half strength every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilisation during the winter months.
- Potting: Repot every 1-2 years as needed, using a well-draining orchid potting mix. A mix containing bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite is suitable.
