cancel Sold out
Bulbophyllum roxburghii is a species occurring from India and Sri Lanka across to Thailand and parts of Southeast Asia. It grows in humid, shaded forests, usually on tree trunks or branches. The plant forms creeping rhizomes with small, widely spaced pseudobulbs, each carrying a single leaf. Short inflorescences emerge from the rhizome, producing a cluster of small flowers that are typically yellow-green with purple or red spotting. This species is of interest to orchid collectors for its spreading habit and distinctive floral markings.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers shaded to moderately bright light, avoiding direct sun.
- Water: Requires frequent watering to keep roots consistently moist.
- Media: Grows well mounted on cork or tree fern, or in a fine orchid mix with sphagnum for added moisture retention.
- Fertiliser: Feed with dilute orchid fertiliser throughout the growing season.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm to intermediate climates, ideally 18–28 °C, with high humidity.
- Air circulation: Ensure good airflow to reduce risk of fungal or bacterial issues.
- Repotting: Refresh medium or remount every 2–3 years to maintain root health.
