check_circle In Stock
Ceropegia sandersonii, commonly known as the Parachute Plant or Umbrella Flower, is a unique climbing succulent native to the warm, humid regions of southern Africa. This remarkable species is admired for its distinctive green, lantern-shaped flowers that resemble tiny parachutes, attracting pollinators such as flies. It is well-suited to being grown in hanging baskets or trained on a trellis, making it a striking ornamental plant.
Distinctive Features
- Unusual Flowers: The plant produces tubular greenish-yellow flowers with a flared, umbrella-like top, designed to trap and guide pollinators.
- Trailing Growth Habit: Its long, vining stems can cascade gracefully from a hanging pot or climb up a support structure.
- Succulent Leaves: Small, fleshy, heart-shaped leaves appear along the stems, though they may be sparse in certain growing conditions.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct morning sunlight.
- Water: Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
- Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity levels but can adapt to average indoor conditions.
- Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 25°C but should be kept above 10°C to prevent damage.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a diluted balanced fertiliser once a month during active growth.
- Potting: Use a well-draining, airy potting mix such as a combination of cactus soil and perlite.
- Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings, which root readily in soil or water.
