Coelia macrostachya
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Coelia macrostachya is a distinctive orchid species native to Mexico and Central America, prized for its lush pleated foliage and impressive spikes of fragrant, creamy white to pale green flowers. Unlike many orchids that are grown primarily for their blooms, this species is equally attractive in foliage, forming handsome clumps that make an excellent display throughout the year.
Flower spikes emerge from the base of mature growths during the cooler months, carrying numerous waxy, sweetly fragrant flowers. An uncommon species in cultivation, Coelia macrostachya is an excellent choice for collectors looking to grow something a little different.
Care
- Light: Bright filtered light or light shade. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist during active growth, allowing the media to become only slightly dry between waterings.
- Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions (15–30°C).
- Humidity: Prefers 50–80% humidity with good air movement.
- Growing Media: Free-draining orchid bark mix with added moisture-retentive components such as sphagnum moss or perlite.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced orchid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during active growth.
