Cryptanthus bivittatus 'Ruby' - Earth Star Bromeliad

Cryptanthus bivittatus 'Ruby' is a compact bromeliad grown for its flat rosettes of ruby-red foliage with green and cream striping. Bright, indirect light helps maintain its strongest colour.

Cryptanthus grow differently from conventional potted plants. New pups develop around and above the older rosettes, creating a layered or stacked clump rather than remaining rooted neatly inside a pot.

These plants will be supplied as loose pups without a pot or growing media. Pups may have only a small root system when received. This is normal. Customers will need to establish them in their own pot and suitable free-draining mix.

Care

• Light: Provide bright, indirect light to maintain strong foliage colour. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
• Water: Keep the media lightly moist while the pup establishes, but never waterlogged. Allow the upper layer to begin drying between waterings.
• Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity with good air movement.
• Media: Use a loose, free-draining bromeliad or indoor plant mix.
• Planting: Rest the base of the pup against the surface of the media and secure it if needed. Do not bury the rosette deeply, as this may cause rot.
• Temperature: Best grown in warm conditions between approximately 18–27°C. Protect from cold temperatures.
• Fertiliser: Apply a weak liquid fertiliser during active growth. Avoid strong or frequent feeding.
