Cryptanthus bivittatus - Earth Star Bromeliad
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Cryptanthus bivittatus is a small terrestrial bromeliad species known for its low, star-shaped rosette of thin, striated leaves. The foliage often displays green with longitudinal cream or pink stripes, with colouration influenced by light levels. Native to the understories of Brazil's Atlantic Forest, this species grows in leaf litter and shallow soils, forming compact mats and occasionally producing small, inconspicuous white flowers at the rosette's centre.
Care Tips:
- Light - Bright, indirect light enhances leaf striping; avoid direct midday sun
- Water - Keep slightly moist; allow the top layer to dry briefly between waterings
- Humidity - Benefits from moderate to high humidity
- Media - Free-draining, slightly acidic mix, such as a bromeliad blend
- Temperature - Prefers warm conditions, 18-27 °C
- Fertiliser - Apply diluted fertiliser during active growth every 4-6 weeks
- Repotting - Repot when offsets crowd the container, typically every 2-3 years
