Cymbidium 'High Rise'
check_circle In Stock
Cymbidium 'High Rise' is a registered hybrid noted for its tall, upright inflorescences and reliable display of medium to large flowers. The cultivar typically produces long, strong spikes that stand well above the foliage, each carrying many blooms. Flowers are usually cream to pale green with pink or red suffusion and a contrasting lip marked in red, though colour can vary slightly depending on the clone. The presentation of multiple tall spikes at once gives the plant a striking, vertical habit, hence the name.
This hybrid flowers in late winter to spring under cultivation, with blooms lasting several weeks. Plants grow vigorously, forming clumps of long, narrow leaves and producing regular flowering once established. Its strong spike carriage and well-arranged blooms make it a popular choice for both pot culture and cut flowers.
Care Tips
- Light: Provide bright, filtered light; some direct morning or late afternoon sun assists spike development.
- Water: Maintain even moisture during growth; reduce slightly after flowering but avoid drying out the mix.
- Media: Use a coarse, free-draining Cymbidium mix such as medium bark with perlite or charcoal.
- Fertiliser: Apply a balanced orchid fertiliser every 2-3 weeks in active growth, changing to a bloom booster as spikes form.
- Temperature: Best with cool to intermediate conditions, with nights around 10-14 °C and days up to 26 °C; a cool night-warm day cycle encourages flowering.
- Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years after flowering, when new shoots are starting, allowing space for strong spike production.
