Cymbidium (Kimberley × McClure Quest) 'White Night' is one I've grown mainly for its reliability. The flowers are big-around 120 mm-and the spikes stand up straight without needing much support. Once the bulbs mature, it's common for them to throw more than one spike, so you get a good show from a single plant. It sits in that group of modern whites that just work.

Care

  • Light: Bright filtered light; some morning sun is fine.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist during active growth; slightly drier in winter.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate grower.
  • Media: Free-draining Cymbidium bark mix.
  • Feeding: Regular fertiliser through spring and summer; reduce as temperatures drop.

Key Characteristics

  • Parentage: Kimberley × McClure Quest
  • Spike habit: Tall, upright spikes.
  • Flower size: Large ~120 mm blooms.
  • Flowering period: July to August under Victorian conditions.
  • Bloom quality: Long-lasting flowers; tends to produce multiple spikes per bulb once established.
  • Colour: Clean whites with soft pink to rose markings typical of this line.
