cancel Sold out
Dendrobium nobile 'White with Pink Edge' is a cultivated form of the widely distributed Dendrobium nobile, a species native to the Himalayan region and parts of Southeast Asia. In the wild, the species grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte in montane forests at elevations between 200 and 2,000 metres, experiencing warm, wet summers and cool, dry winters.
This form produces the characteristic upright, cane-like pseudobulbs of the species, which bear leaves along their length during the growth season. Flowers emerge in late winter to spring from the nodes of mature canes, often in large numbers, creating an impressive floral display.
The blooms are predominantly white, each petal edged with a soft pink margin. The lip is also white, sometimes with a faint yellow throat, and the flowers are lightly fragrant. As with the species, flowering is best after a period of cooler temperatures and reduced watering during the dormant season.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide bright, filtered light; some gentle morning or late afternoon sun is beneficial.
- Water: Water regularly during the active growth period; reduce watering in winter to encourage flowering.
- Humidity: Prefers 50–70% humidity with good air circulation.
- Media: Use a free-draining orchid mix such as medium-grade bark, or mount on cork or hardwood with adequate moisture during growth.
- Temperature: Grows well in intermediate to cool conditions, with winter nights around 10–15°C and summer days up to 27°C.
- Fertiliser: Feed every 2–3 weeks during active growth with a diluted orchid fertiliser; stop feeding during winter rest.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years after flowering, when new roots begin to appear.
