Dendrochilum uncatum (Syn. Coelogyne uncatum)
cancel Sold out
Dendrochilum uncatum, synonymously known as Coelogyne uncatum, is a dainty epiphyte native to the cool forests of the Eastern Himalayas. It is particularly admired for its arching, slender spikes that bear neat rows of small, greenish to cream-coloured blooms. The delicate structure and habit make it a prized species among collectors of pendant orchids. Inflorescences are long and slender, typically arching or drooping from the plant, with up to 30–40 petite blooms per spike. The lightly fragrant blooms have a translucent greenish hue with pale yellow accents, lending a soft, ethereal appearance.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers filtered light or light shade; avoid harsh afternoon sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist in active growth; reduce slightly in cooler months, but do not allow to dry out completely.
- Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity (60–80%) with good airflow to prevent fungal issues.
- Media: Well-draining mix such as fine bark and sphagnum; can also grow mounted on slabs in humid conditions.
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate grower; ideal range 10–24 °C. Protect from frost.
- Fertiliser: Light applications of a balanced orchid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
- Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when the clump outgrows its container. Best done in spring after flowering.
