Dionaea muscipula 'Akai Ryu/Red Dragon' - Venus Fly Trap

Dionaea muscipula ‘Akai Ryu’, also known as ‘Red Dragon’, is a well-known red-leaf Venus Flytrap clone valued for its deep red foliage and traps when grown under strong light.

This cultivar is characterised by consistently red petioles and traps throughout the growing season, making it one of the most stable red forms in cultivation. Colour intensity may vary slightly with season and light levels but remains noticeably darker than standard green forms.

Trap & Growth Characteristics

Traps are typically medium-sized with a classic Venus Flytrap shape and normal marginal teeth. Growth is upright during active seasons, with tighter, more compact growth during cooler months.

Colour Notes

Full red colouration requires strong light. Plants grown in lower light may show darker maroon tones rather than bright red. Winter growth is slower, and trap size may temporarily reduce during dormancy.
