Dionaea muscipula 'Bart Simpson' - Venus Fly Trap

Dionaea muscipula ‘Bart Simpson’ is a collector’s Venus Flytrap clone recognised for its unusual, irregular trap presentation and low-growing habit. It is supplied as an established plant in a 70 mm pot.

This clone generally forms a prostrate rosette with traps held close to the growing medium. Its growth is slower and less uniform than many standard Venus Flytraps, giving mature plants a distinctive, somewhat untidy appearance.

Care

• Light: Full sun to very bright light. Strong light encourages compact growth and good trap colour.
• Water: Use rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water only. Keep the pot sitting in shallow water during active growth.
• Growing medium: Nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix, such as sphagnum peat with perlite or silica sand.
• Feeding: Do not use fertiliser. Plants grown outdoors will catch their own insects.
• Dormancy: An annual winter dormancy is required. Growth will slow, leaves will become shorter and some older traps may blacken and die back. This is normal.
