Dionaea muscipula 'Big Mouth' - Venus Fly Trap

Dionaea muscipula ‘Big Mouth’ is a popular Venus Flytrap clone selected for its broad, oversized traps and robust appearance. It is supplied as an established plant in a 70 mm pot.

The traps have wide lobes and retain the classic Venus Flytrap shape with normal marginal teeth. Mature plants generally produce their largest traps during warm, active growth.

Care

• Light: Full sun to very bright light. Strong light encourages compact growth, larger traps and better colour.
• Water: Use rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water only. Keep the pot sitting in shallow water during active growth.
• Growing medium: Nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix, such as sphagnum peat with perlite or silica sand.
• Feeding: Do not use fertiliser. Plants grown outdoors will catch their own insects.
• Dormancy: An annual winter dormancy is required. Growth will slow, leaves will become shorter and some older traps may blacken and die back. This is normal.
