Dionaea muscipula 'Fake Dracula' – Winter Dormant - Venus Flytrap

Dionaea muscipula ‘Fake Dracula’ is an uncommon collector's Venus Flytrap clone named for its resemblance to the famous ‘Dracula’ cultivar. While it is not the original ‘Dracula’ clone, it is valued for its attractive trap form, elongated marginal teeth, and impressive colour under good growing conditions.

This clone typically produces medium to large traps with long, slender marginal teeth and a vigorous growth habit. As with many collector clones, trap size, tooth length, and overall appearance naturally vary throughout the growing season.

Trap Form & Appearance

‘Fake Dracula’ develops well-proportioned traps with prominent marginal teeth that give the plant an elegant, dramatic appearance. Mature plants grown in full sun produce the strongest trap form and overall presentation.

Colour Notes

Under strong light, trap interiors develop rich red pigmentation that becomes more intense as the plant matures. Many plants also display excellent colour throughout the cooler months, with winter dormancy often enhancing the contrast between the red trap interiors and green outer foliage.

Winter Dormancy

These plants are currently in their natural winter dormancy. During this period they may have fewer active traps, shorter leaves, and some older traps may blacken and die back. This is a normal and essential part of the Venus Flytrap's annual growth cycle. Each plant has a healthy rhizome and will resume vigorous growth as temperatures warm in spring.

Growing Conditions

• Light: Full sun for compact growth and the best trap colour.
• Water: Use only rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
• Growing Medium: Nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix such as sphagnum peat with perlite or silica sand.
• Feeding: Outdoor plants will naturally catch their own insects. Avoid fertilisers and unnecessary triggering of traps.
• Dormancy: An annual winter dormancy is essential for long-term health and vigorous spring growth.

Growth Notes

As with all Venus Flytraps, seasonal variation is expected. Plants are naturally more compact during winter dormancy and produce their largest traps during the active growing season. Mature plants typically show the best trap size, colour, and overall form.
