Dionaea muscipula 'Micro Mini' – Miniature Venus Flytrap

Dionaea muscipula ‘Micro Mini’ is a compact Venus Flytrap clone selected for its naturally small traps and miniature growth habit. It produces short leaves arranged in tight, low-growing rosettes and can gradually form a dense clump.

Clone Characteristics

• Trap form: Small, classically shaped Venus Flytrap traps with normal marginal cilia.
• Trap size: Naturally reduced and remaining comparatively small as the individual rosettes mature.
• Colour: Generally green to lightly blushed, with red pigmentation developing inside the traps under strong light.
• Growth habit: Compact and low-growing, with short petioles and a tendency to produce multiple small rosettes.
• Primary feature: Selected for its miniature proportions rather than unusual teeth, malformed traps or intense colour.

Seasonal Appearance

Venus Flytraps change considerably throughout the year. During active growth, ‘Micro Mini’ produces fresh leaves and small functional traps while maintaining its compact proportions. Although each rosette remains small, an established plant can multiply and develop into a dense clump.

During winter dormancy, growth becomes even more compact and the plant may have fewer active leaves, smaller traps and some blackening of older growth. This seasonal dieback is normal. The living plant remains below and around the growing points and resumes stronger growth as conditions warm in spring.

The plant supplied may therefore vary in fullness, trap number and colour depending on its maturity and the time of year.

Care

• Light: Grow outdoors in a sunny position. Strong light supports dense, compact growth and stronger trap colour.
• Water: Use rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water. Do not use ordinary tap water unless it is known to contain very low levels of dissolved minerals.
• Watering method: During active growth, stand the pot in a shallow tray of suitable water and do not allow the growing medium to dry out. Reduce the water level during winter dormancy, but keep the medium damp.
• Growing medium: Use a nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix, such as sphagnum peat combined with perlite or silica sand. Do not use ordinary potting mix.
• Feeding: Plants grown outdoors will normally catch enough small insects without assistance. Do not apply standard plant fertilisers or repeatedly trigger the traps.
• Dormancy: Venus Flytraps are temperate plants with a natural winter resting period. Protect potted plants from severe or prolonged freezing conditions.

What You Will Receive

You will receive one established plant growing in a 70mm pot. Images show ‘Micro Mini’ during one or more stages of growth and are representative of the plants available. Individual plants will vary in the number of rosettes, trap number, colour and seasonal appearance.

Please note that ‘Micro Mini’ is naturally small. Its compact size is a characteristic of the clone and does not indicate that the plant is immature or unhealthy.
