Dionaea muscipula 'Red Piranha' – Red Venus Flytrap

Dionaea muscipula ‘Red Piranha’ is a collector’s Venus Flytrap clone recognised for its deep red colour and short, triangular marginal teeth. It is supplied as an established plant in a 70 mm pot.

The combination of dark foliage and compact, tooth-like trap margins gives this clone its distinctive appearance. Strong light is required to develop the deepest red to burgundy colour.

Care

• Light: Full sun to very bright light. Strong light is essential for compact growth and deep red colour.
• Water: Use rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water only. Keep the pot sitting in shallow water during active growth.
• Growing medium: Nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix, such as sphagnum peat with perlite or silica sand.
• Feeding: Do not use fertiliser or repeatedly trigger the traps. Plants grown outdoors will catch their own insects.
• Dormancy: An annual winter dormancy is required. Growth will slow, leaves will become shorter and some older traps may blacken and die back. This is normal.
