Dischidia platyphylla 'Solomon Islands' is a lesser-seen form of this unique species, endemic to humid lowland forests in parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. Like many members of the Apocynaceae family, it exhibits specialised growth habits suited to life as an epiphyte. This form is particularly valued for its oversized, flattened leaves that cling tightly to host surfaces, resembling shingles.

Distinctive Features

• Shingle-style leaves: Foliage grows tightly flattened against substrates, adapting to vertical surfaces such as tree trunks or moss poles.
• Pale clustered buds: The inflorescences emerge in tight clusters, often a soft cream or pinkish tone, creating a striking contrast with the foliage.
• Adventitious root formation: Nodes along the stem produce roots readily, aiding both climbing and propagation.

Care Tips

• Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which may scorch leaves.
• Water: Water when the top layer of the medium dries. Do not allow to remain soggy – roots are prone to rot if overwatered.
