Echinopsis subdenudata f. cristata (syn. subdenudatus)
check_circle In Stock
Echinopsis subdenudata f. cristata develops a distinctive fan-shaped growth where the normally rounded stem becomes flattened and crested.
This form has been developed though the Paradisia breeding program over the past 10 years, undulating ridges lined with fluffy white areoles and short spines, creating a sculptural appearance that changes as the plant grows. The species is native to Bolivia and Paraguay, where it typically grows as a small, spherical cactus known for its large, fragrant white flowers. While the crested form may still bloom, flowers often emerge from irregular points along the crest, adding to its ornamental interest.
Care Tips:
- Light – Provide bright light to full sun to maintain compact, healthy growth while avoiding scorching in extreme heat.
- Water – Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between watering; reduce watering in winter when growth slows.
- Humidity – Thrives in low humidity with good airflow.
- Media – Use a gritty, free-draining cactus mix to prevent root rot.
- Temperature – Best grown at 10–30 °C; protect from frost.
- Fertiliser – Apply a diluted, low-nitrogen cactus fertiliser during the growing season to support healthy tissue development.
- Repotting – Repot every 2–3 years, handling the crested stem carefully to avoid breakage.
