Euphorbia capsaintmariensis is a miniature Madagascan species endemic to Cap Sainte-Marie in the far south of Madagascar, where it inhabits exposed limestone outcrops and calcareous soils in arid, coastal scrublands. This diminutive succulent forms dense cushions of short, globular to cylindrical stems that emerge from a tuberous rootstock. Stems are grey-green, often with purplish tones in high light, and bear tiny deciduous leaves. Its yellow to greenish cyathia are borne close to the stem tips.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers strong, bright light or full sun to maintain compact form
- Water: Water sparingly; allow the soil to dry thoroughly between watering
- Humidity: Suited to dry air; avoid humid conditions
- Media: Use a sharply draining mix with high mineral content
- Temperature: Keep within 20–30 °C range; protect from cold and frost
- Fertiliser: Fertilise lightly during the growing season with a balanced low-strength feed
- Repotting: Rarely required; best done during active growth if the root system becomes constrained
Additional Notes:
- Known to be toxic
