Euphorbia flanaganii f. cristata - Fan-Crested Form Medusa (WA Prohibited)

Euphorbia flanaganii f. cristata – Fan-Crested Form produces broad, flattened fans with continuous, rippled growing edges. As the plant matures, these upright crests divide and fold into an increasingly sculptural specimen.

This form is distinctly different from our Cristate-Monstrose Form. Rather than producing a dense mass of short, irregular growing points and abundant cylindrical branches, the Fan-Crested Form directs most of its growth into prominent, upright crests.

Some cylindrical branches may still appear. These are normal reversions towards the species’ usual growth habit and may occur alongside the fan-shaped growth. However, the dominant feature of this form is its broad and clearly defined cresting.

Understanding the Crested Growth

Cresting, also known as fasciation, occurs when a normally rounded growing point becomes elongated into a line. Instead of producing a single stem, the plant develops a flattened fan with many closely arranged growing points along its upper edge.

The resulting crests may be straight, curved, folded or divided. Each plant develops its own individual structure, and no two specimens will be identical.

Plants are selected from the available bench stock. The size, number, shape and orientation of the fans will vary naturally between plants.

Care

• Light: Grow in bright light to morning sun. Introduce plants gradually to stronger sunlight to avoid scorching.
• Water: Water thoroughly during active growth, then allow the potting mix to dry before watering again. Reduce watering substantially during cool weather.
• Media: Use a coarse, freely draining succulent mix.
• Temperature: Protect from frost, prolonged cold and cold, wet conditions.
• Airflow: Provide good airflow, particularly around tightly folded crests where moisture may remain trapped.

Please note: Like other Euphorbias, this plant produces a milky latex sap when damaged. The sap can irritate skin and eyes. Handle carefully and keep away from children and pets.
