WA Restricted - Cannot be shipped to Western Australia.
Euphorbia hypogaea is a dwarf, geophytic succulent native to southern Madagascar, where it inhabits dry, sandy or gravelly soils in semi-arid regions. The plant remains mostly subterranean for much of the year, with only its compact, often flattened stems emerging above the soil surface during active growth. These stems may be grey-green to reddish, bearing inconspicuous, sessile cyathia close to the stem surface. The thickened underground rootstock allows the plant to survive extended dry periods by storing moisture.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers full sun to light shade; needs strong light for compact growth
- Water: Water sparingly during the growing season; allow soil to dry fully between waterings
- Humidity: Thrives in dry air; avoid excess humidity
- Media: Requires a sharply draining mineral mix; add grit or pumice for aeration
- Temperature: Best kept between 20–30 °C; avoid cold and frost
- Fertiliser: Use a weak, low-nitrogen fertiliser during active growth
- Repotting: Only when necessary; handle the tuber gently to avoid damage
Additional Notes:
- Known to be toxic
