Euphorbia polygona 'Paradisian Blue' is a cultivar selected for its distinctive bluish to teal-coloured stems, which differ markedly from the grey-green tones of the typical species. Euphorbia polygona is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it inhabits dry, rocky flats and well-drained slopes. This cultivar shares the upright, ridged, spiny stems of the species, but with intensified glaucous pigmentation that becomes more pronounced under bright light. The paired spines are short and stout, arranged along the edges of each rib, and mature plants may bear dark purple to almost black cyathia near the stem tips during the warmer months.
Care Tips:
- Light – Requires bright light to full sun; strong light enhances the bluish tones
- Water – Water deeply but only when the soil has fully dried out
- Humidity – Prefers dry air; avoid excessive humidity or poor ventilation
- Media – Use a sharply draining cactus mix with added sand or pumice
- Temperature – Maintain above 10°C; protect from cold and frost
- Fertiliser – Feed sparingly with diluted cactus fertiliser during the growing season
- Repotting – Repot every few years or when rootbound
Additional Notes:
- Known to be toxic
