Faucaria tuberculosa f. Monstrose – Tiger Jaws
release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Faucaria tuberculosa is a charismatic succulent native to the semi-arid regions of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. Well known for its dramatic, tooth-edged leaves and knobbly surface texture, this plant is a standout in any succulent collection. Despite its fierce appearance, it remains compact and non-aggressive, often forming dense clumps over time.
Distinctive Features
- Warty Leaf Texture: The thick, triangular leaves display irregular, bumpy tubercles that give the plant its specific name and unusual appeal.
- Toothed Margins: Each leaf is bordered with soft, pale teeth-like projections resembling an open jaw—hence the common name "Tiger Jaws."
- Clump-Forming Habit: This species grows low to the ground and slowly spreads to form attractive mounds of rosettes.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or partial sun; can tolerate some direct sun, especially in the morning.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
- Humidity: Thrives in dry environments; avoid high humidity to prevent rot.
- Media: Requires well-draining, sandy or gritty cactus mix to prevent root rot.
- Temperature: Best kept between 15–26°C; protect from frost as it is not cold hardy.
- Fertiliser: Feed lightly with diluted cactus fertiliser during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant outgrows its container; best done in early spring.
