Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Oval-shaped leaves with a striking network of veins. The leaves are a vibrant green colour with a white midrib and vein pattern, creating a beautiful mosaic-like pattern. The underside of the leaves is typically a contrasting reddish-purple colour.
- Growth Habit: This Fittonia has a low-growing, spreading habit. It typically reaches a height of 15-20cm (6-8 inches) and spreads up to 30cm (12 inches) wide.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade the vibrant colours of the leaves.
- Water: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.
- Humidity: This Fittonia enjoys high humidity. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water, or using a humidifier.
- Temperature: Maintain comfortable room temperatures between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Avoid exposing this plant to cold draughts or temperatures below 13°C (55°F).
- Fertiliser: Use a diluted liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Pruning: Pinch back the stems to encourage bushier growth. You can also propagate new plants from stem cuttings.
