Gymnocalycium anisitsii (Syn. damsii) variegata is an eye-catching, small-growing cactus native to South America, particularly found in Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. This variant features remarkable variegated colouring, blending shades of yellow, orange, pink, and green across its smooth, rounded body. As a member of the Gymnocalycium genus, it produces stunning funnel-shaped flowers, usually pale pink or white.
Distinctive Features
- Variegated Colouration: A mesmerising mix of yellow, orange, green, and pink hues.
- Spine Structure: Typically short, flexible spines, making it more approachable than many cacti.
- Flowering: Produces delicate pale pink to white flowers, often blooming in spring or summer.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight.
- Water: Water moderately during the growing season, allowing soil to dry between waterings; reduce watering in winter.
- Humidity: Prefers low to moderate humidity, making it ideal for indoor cultivation.
- Media: Requires well-draining cactus soil with added perlite or pumice.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 18–30°C but should be protected from frost.
