Haworthia 'Leiyingshou'
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Haworthia 'Leiyingshou' is a cultivated hybrid, valued for its compact rosette growth and strikingly translucent leaf tips. While its exact lineage is not formally published, it derives from South African Haworthia species that naturally inhabit rocky slopes and sandy flats, often with most of the plant body buried beneath the soil. These conditions have led to specialised adaptations such as windowed leaves, which allow sunlight to penetrate into photosynthetic tissue below ground.
The plant forms slow-growing rosettes with thick, fleshy leaves that display clear windowing and a crystalline sheen. This trait reflects the survival mechanisms of its wild relatives, where translucence maximises light capture while reducing exposure to intense heat and evaporation. The neat, symmetrical rosette and subtle play of light through the leaf tissue make it a distinctive cultivar among collectors.
In cultivation, it produces slender, wiry inflorescences that rise above the foliage, carrying small white tubular flowers marked with green or brown. Though the flowers are modest in appearance, they follow the seasonal rhythm of the genus, which relies on opportunistic insect pollination in the wild during brief favourable weather periods.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright, indirect light; short exposure to soft morning sun is tolerated.
- Water: Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the mix to dry between waterings; reduce in winter.
- Media: Use a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix to prevent root rot.
- Temperature: Ideal range 10–28 °C; protect from cold below 5 °C.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted succulent fertiliser monthly during growth.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years to refresh the soil and maintain root health.
