Haworthia truncata 'Lime Green' is a cultivated form of the South African species Haworthia truncata, known for its unusual growth pattern in which flattened leaf tips emerge in two opposite rows. Native to the Little Karoo region of the Western Cape, this succulent typically grows in shaded quartzite flats where it benefits from protection by surrounding vegetation and gritty, mineral-rich soils. The 'Lime Green' form is selected for its lighter, brighter green foliage compared to typical specimens.
Distinctive features:
- Foliage forms in opposite rows resembling a fan or conveyor belt
- Leaf tops appear truncated and windowed, aiding light capture in low sun
- Lime-green coloration persists under bright filtered light
- Slow growing and compact, often remaining under 5 cm in height
- Produces tubular white flowers on slender inflorescences in late spring or summer
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun which may bleach or damage the foliage
- Water: Allow soil to dry fully between waterings; overwatering is a common cause of root loss
- Humidity: Tolerates dry air; does not require added humidity
- Media: Use a very well-drained gritty mix with mineral content, such as pumice and coarse sand
- Temperature: Thrives between 10–25 °C; protect from frost and extreme heat
- Fertiliser: Apply diluted cactus fertiliser during active growth in spring to early summer
- Repotting: Infrequent; only repot when roots become congested, usually every 2–3 years
