Homalomena 'Camouflage' (WA Prohibited)

Homalomena 'Camouflage' is a cultivated Homalomena selection grown for its camouflage-like leaf patterning. The foliage is broad and heart-shaped to ovate, carried on sturdy petioles, with irregular mottling in layered shades of green that disrupt the surface of the leaf blade. As the plant matures and leaf size increases, the camouflage effect commonly becomes more clearly expressed, with older foliage showing stronger tonal separation than juvenile growth. Homalomena as a group is native to tropical regions of South-East Asia and surrounding areas, where plants grow on the forest floor in warm, humid environments with evenly moist soils and filtered light.

Care Tips:

• Light: Bright, indirect light supports clearer expression of leaf patterning. Lower light is tolerated but may soften contrast, while direct sun can damage foliage.
• Water: Keep the potting mix lightly and evenly moist, allowing only the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid prolonged waterlogging.
• Media: A moisture-retentive yet free-draining mix with added bark or coarse material supports stable root conditions.
• Fertiliser: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at reduced strength during active growth, approximately every 3 to 4 weeks.
• Temperature: Best maintained between 18 and 30 °C. Cooler conditions can slow growth and affect foliage quality.
• Repotting: Repot every 1 to 2 years, or when the plant becomes crowded, ideally during warmer months.
