Hoya acuta variegata is a striking epiphytic vine from Southeast Asia, appreciated for its bold variegation and intricate floral displays. With its creamy leaf margins and globe-shaped umbels of porcelain-like flowers, this cultivar stands out as both ornamental and collectable.

Distinctive Features

  • Leaf variegation: Leaves are thick, lanceolate, and leathery, featuring bright creamy margins and green centres. Some flush pale pink under high light conditions.
  • Inflorescence: Star-shaped flowers form dense, spherical clusters. Petals are ivory to pale cream, with rose-pink coronas and a sweet, musky fragrance.
  • Growth habit: Twining or trailing vine with flexible stems. Excellent for hanging baskets, mounted displays, or climbing on support structures.

Care Tips

  • Light: Prefers bright, filtered light. Variegation intensifies with good light but avoid direct midday sun to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Water: Allow the top few centimetres of substrate to dry before watering. Reduce frequency in winter months.
  • Humidity: Tolerates standard household humidity but thrives in higher humidity environments (>60%).
  • Media: Well-aerated mix with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir or peat. Drainage is essential.
  • Temperature: Ideal range is 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts; sensitive to frost.
  • Fertiliser: Feed fortnightly in the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser or orchid blend. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
  • Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when roots outgrow the container. Avoid overpotting to preserve flowering performance.

Additional Notes

  • Flowering is encouraged by stable conditions, bright light, and being slightly root-bound. Bud drop may occur with sudden changes in environment.
  • This plant produces latex when cut; wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.

  • Cut-off: Orders to WA, NT and TAS must be placed by Friday 7am (AEST) to be included in the following week’s dispatch.
  • Treatment & Delay: These orders require biosecurity treatment and certification, which is completed each Friday. Please allow an additional 1–2 weeks for processing.

Plant Health Certification (PHAC) Fees

  • $20 fee applies to WA orders.
  • $10 fee applies to NT and TAS orders.
  • This fee is per order (not per plant) and is included in your shipping cost at checkout.
