check_circle In Stock
Hoya amoena is a climbing species distributed through Southeast Asia, with records from Indonesia, Malaysia, and nearby regions where it inhabits lowland tropical forests. It produces medium to large, thick-textured leaves that support umbels of sizeable star-shaped flowers. The blooms are typically white with a pink to reddish corona, strongly scented, and often produced in generous clusters that can last for several days. In its native habitat, the nectar-rich flowers attract insect pollinators, and in cultivation the species is valued for both its vigorous growth and its showy, fragrant inflorescences.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Medium-sized, oval-shaped leaves with a deep green color and a slightly fuzzy texture. The leaves have prominent veins that add to their visual appeal.
- Flowers: Produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in a beautiful shade of pink. The flowers have a sweet fragrance and a delicate, fuzzy texture.
- Growth Habit: This Hoya has a vining growth habit and thrives when provided with a support to climb, such as a trellis or moss pole. It can also be grown in a hanging basket.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Some direct morning or evening sun can encourage blooming.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: This Hoya appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray, or misting the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C) for optimal growth.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the spring and summer growing seasons.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix.
