Hoya carnosa 'Grey Ghost' - Silver Hoya
release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Hoya carnosa 'Grey Ghost' is a stunning and rare cultivar of Hoya carnosa, prized for its silvery-grey, almost metallic-looking leaves. This epiphytic vine, native to East Asia and Australia, thrives in warm, humid conditions. The leaves of 'Grey Ghost' often exhibit minimal green variegation, with some plants producing nearly solid silver foliage, especially under optimal lighting. When mature, it produces clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers in soft pink to pale white tones.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Elliptical, fleshy, and silvery-grey, with a smooth texture. The leaves are arranged oppositely on the stem and can grow up to 8cm (3.1in) long and 5cm (2in) wide.
- Flowers: Borne in clusters of up to 20, each with a diameter of 1.5cm (0.6in). The flowers are a delicate pale pink colour with a darker pink centre and have a subtle, sweet fragrance.
- Growth Habit: A vigorous vining plant that can grow up to 3m (10ft) long. It is best grown in a hanging basket or on a trellis or ladder to allow its long runners to cascade freely.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water regularly during the growing season (spring and summer) and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in autumn and winter.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Misting the leaves regularly can help to increase humidity levels.
- Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 18-25°C (64-77°F). Avoid temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
- Fertiliser: Fertilise once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
- Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.
- Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take cuttings in spring or summer and root them in a well-draining potting mix.
