Hoya carnosa 'Indian Rope' (Variegated Outer Leaf Form) is a slow-growing epiphytic vine native to Southeast Asia and Australia. This cultivar is cherished for its tightly curled leaves edged in creamy variegation and its clusters of waxy, star-shaped blooms that release a subtle fragrance at night.

Distinctive Features

  • Foliage: Thick, contorted green leaves with creamy-white outer margins form a unique, rope-like appearance.
  • Flowers: Pale pink umbels composed of dozens of five-pointed blooms with darker centres and a sugary texture.
  • Growth Habit: Compact trailing or cascading vine, ideal for hanging baskets or trellises in indoor spaces.

Care Tips

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Water: Water thoroughly when the potting medium dries out. Reduce watering in cooler months.
  • Humidity: Tolerates average household humidity but appreciates occasional misting in drier climates.
  • Media: Use a coarse, free-draining mix—orchid bark and perlite are excellent additions.
  • Temperature: Thrives between 15–30 °C. Protect from frost and cold drafts.

Non-Biosecurity States (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, SA): We now offer two dispatches per week for these regions:

  • Tuesday Dispatch: Orders placed by Sunday 11:59 PM AEST.
  • Friday Dispatch: Orders placed by Wednesday 11:59 PM AEST. Orders placed after these cut-offs will be dispatched on the next available day.

Biosecurity States (WA, NT, TAS): These orders require mandatory biosecurity treatment (PHC) and follow a specific weekly schedule:

  • Cut-off: Orders must be placed by Thursday 11:59 PM AEST.
  • Dispatch Day: Orders are processed over the weekend and dispatched on Tuesday.

Plant Health Certification (PHC) Fees:

  • $20 fee applies to WA orders.
  • $10 fee applies to NT and TAS orders. This fee is per order (not per plant) and is included in your shipping costat checkout.
